The "Screen" section

   The "Screen" section (figure 1) is used to enable displaying the remote screen and contains the parameters of the remote computer screen being received (the image quality, the screen update frequency) and also the function of saving the received screenshots to be viewed later.

   The "Color depth" item specifies the quality of the remote screen images being received. The lower the image quality is (the number of bits), the faster the image received from the remote computer is updated.

   The "Screen refresh rate" item allows you to set the necessary frequency of updating the remote computer screen (in some cases, the CPU on computers with low performance is loaded too much when the remote computer screen is received, as a result, the server side of the program considerably slows down the system and therefore the user working with the remote computer may have problems).

   If the resolution of the remote computer screen is larger than that of the local screen, you can use scrolling to navigate such a screen. Scrollbars are used for that in the standard mode. The second option is to switch to the scaled view when the entire screen of the remote computer fits into the window. It is possible to specify any size of the scaled screen in this mode.

   The "Save images as JPEG" item is used to save the image received from the remote computer screen in the JPEG format. Later you can view the saved images in the folder "../path to the program/screens/". It is useful in those cases when you need to show someone what was going on on the remote computer within a certain time interval.
   The "Save images as AVI" item is similar to the "Save images as JPEG" item, however, in this case the program records the image from the remote screen to a video file in the AVI format and it also has a dialog box with additional settings (figure 4,5).
   Additionally, while specifying the options of saving remote screenshots, you can specify how often they should be saved to the disk. That is, for example, constantly, every other screen update, every third screen update, every tenth update and so on.

   The "Lock the server screen" item is used to disable the user remote screen when you are working with it. It is sometimes necessary while you are controlling the remote screen not to show the user the operations performed with his computer. At the same time it is possible to show a text message for the user on the locked display.

   The "Lock the keyboard and mouse" item locks the corresponding information input tools on the remote computer so that the user could not interfere with the administrator's actions with the remote computer.

   Modes of receiving screen images from the remote desktop

   There are four types of using the remote computer screen:
   - "Silent watch ..." - only watching the changes on the remote computer;
   - "Manage the computer ..." - viewing the remote computer screen and completely controlling the remote computer with the keyboard and the mouse;
   - "Video Overlay Capturing ..." - watching the video on a remote computer (overlay video interception);
   - "Content of the fullscreen console window ..." - getting data from the fullscreen MS-DOS window.

   Besides these operations, the context menu of the remote computer window (figure 2) has additional items performing such operations as (figure 3):
   - working with the clipboard (retrieving and setting the clipboard contents);
   - sending commands to the remote computer ("Ctrl+Alt+Del", "Alt+F4", "Alt+Tab", "Win+L", "Print Screen", "Alt+Print Screen");
   - switching window modes (fullscreen / windowed);
   - scaling the screen window;
   - magnifying glass (zooming in part of the remote screen image);
   - forbidding changes to be displayed on the server;
   - updating the window (this item will be useful in those cases when the "Not refresh" item is selected in the screen update parameters);
   - statistics (information about the connection).

   While working with the remote screen, you can do the following:
   - control the remote computer with the mouse and the keyboard;
   - move windows with the mouse;
   - scroll windows with the mouse wheel;
   - other standard operations.

   To save the image of a remote screen in the AVI format, the user can use the corresponding item in the context menu of the remote screen view window, or he can use the F8 hotkey, which will start recording the image in the AVI format. After that you will see the "REC" icon on the screen and the elapsed time (figure 4).

Hidden Administrator: Save images as AVI

   When you click the "AVI Settings / Watch ..." (in the "Screen" section), you see the window where you can configure the video parameters (select the necessary codec from the list, determine the compression rate, etc.) and also you can view previously recorded video files by selecting them from the existing list (figure 5).

  A click on the "Video Overlay Capturing" button allows the user to view video played on the remote computer (figure 6).

  Since most video players use the video overlay technology to show video, it is impossible to display video in case of viewing the screen of the remote computer in the regular way (the user sees a black square instead of video). It is for these cases that this feature is used. It allows overlay video to be intercepted and displayed without any problems making it possible to select the playback source and to save the necessary screenshots to the disk.

   Also, this section allows you to use the "Content of the fullscreen console window" button in order to get the contents of the fullscreen console MS-DOS window (figure 7) being executed on the remote computer. It is impossible to get data from the fullscreen MS-DOS window in a usual way so a separate window has been designed for that.
   Besides, you can work with the remote console MS-DOS window directly as if you were present at the remote computer in person.
